Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of betting follows at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players often get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

While it seems complicated at first, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an amazing array of wagering choices and seeing that you have several players trying for the high, along with a few trying for the low hand. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
