Omaha Hi-Low: Basic Outline

[ English ]

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi/lo starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where many players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complex at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an exciting assortment of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals battling for the high hand, along with several battling for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
