Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi lo starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get confused. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical notion in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the higher hand wins the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha hi/lo provides an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and because you have many players battling for the high hand, along with a few battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
