Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha hi/low begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical notion in almost all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

While it seems complicated at the outset, following a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting range of wagering possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, and several shooting for the low hand.
