Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has grown in popularity so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. Once all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few players get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in almost all poker games.

The low hand is more difficult, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at first, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the base subtleties of play with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of wagering options and because you have numerous individuals shooting for the high hand, and a few battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
